Law Enforcement
Compare/Contrast
Ecuador/My Community

“Ecuadorian law enforcement is very different than ours. Please read on to see what the differences are. We hope you enjoy our project.”
My grandfather was the sheriff for our community and that is why I am so interested in the law.  We chose this topic because someday I want to be a sheriff and I wanted to learn about it.  - Trevor
The picture above is our school’s security system. Our secretary can see anyone that wants to come inside our school.  If she knows them, she pushes a button and unlocks the door.  If no one knows them, our principal goes to greet them and asks why they are here. - Josiah

Ecuador’s 33 prisons were built to house 6,000 prisoners but actually hold 12,600.  Behind this wall is a prison.
Our jail was built in 1978. It is a modern jail with an exercise area and full cooking staff with a dietician. Prisoners are required to wear an orange uniform.  Radios and TV’s with cable are provided.  Inside there is an exercise yard.  There is a commissary where prisoners may purchase snacks.   If both mother and father are arrested and placed in jail, the children are placed with a family member, or in a foster home until their parents are released.
